Natural Economies: a success story
To respond to the need for better information about the value of the region’s natural resources and reasons to protect them, Common Waters organized a workshop in May of 2013 in Matamoras, PA on “Natural Economies.” Economic development is often equated with physical growth of cities and towns or other types of natural resource extraction. Because healthy natural resources form the base of the region’s rural economy and character but residents still need jobs and income, Common Waters began a discussion about how to strengthen the local economy without depleting or destroying these resources.
Protecting Your Land Workshops
Landowners: take advantage of these upcoming workshops with our partner, the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, on the financial benefits of land conservation. They will be held on October 22 in Pennsylvania and October 29 in New York.
Landowners will learn how to keep cherished lands in the family and protect the landscape in perpetuity. Delaware Highlands Conservancy Executive Director Sue Currier will discuss how conservation and agricultural easements are key tools for residents of PA and NY.
Celebrating five years
Registration is now open for the October 11 meeting celebrating five years of collaboration and success at the Nurture Nature Center in Easton, PA.

Common Waters Fund has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the DuPont Clear Into the Future® Program to support the Fund’s efforts to further scientific understanding of the role forests play in maintaining the high quality and reliable flows of the Delaware River.
